This is where we do all sorts of fun activities like art, messy science experiments, cooking, and more! This is also where have all of our family style meals. During family style dining, both adults and children sit together at the table together, just like at home! This way the children can talk and laugh and share stories with their peers and caregivers in a more relaxed setting. Teachers can ensure that new or shy children are included in the conversation, and can help those more outgoing kids wait their turn to speak, and use their quieter voices. Plus, as children look around at all the other plates on the table, they are more likely to try something new. This also allows certain table manners to come naturally, such as: waiting for our turn, passing food to others, properly using utensils, and using words such as “please” and “thank you”.
